I love the thrillers and mystery genre books and had never seen any works by this author until now. I saw this series, Berlin Gothic by Jonas Winner in the kindle ebook section for a breast price. Thanks Amazon, you introduced me to another author I truly enjoy!
The characters are strong, the plot has some incredible twists and turns. I'm glad I purchased the first two in the series together as I finished reading the first book early this morning! It is not a book for the faint of heart, it gets rather gruesome from page 1. So all you horror fans , rejoice! There's a new author in town...

Excellent writer but a very depressing, dark, ughly book. Would have stopped reading it but not for his writing skills. Would" not" read the series but maybe an all together different novel.
Far too abstract and a very weak plot/story line. Would not advise any of my friends to read it. The ending is like a rubber ball thrown into a pit---little noise and no memorable impression.
Worst book EVER! I don't know who in the publishing world thought it would be a cool thing to hype a book with no story and only disconnected shock scenes. I don't know if I'm angrier at the waste of my money or my time! Deleted from my so it could not continue to remind me of how stupid I was to purchase.
The work is very reminiscent of a Stephen King tale. It never becomes clear what is going on and is even more confused by trips back and forth through time and glimpses into the doings of unidentified characters.
Berlin Gothic was a title that intrigued but left me greatly guessing. The plot was fun, surprising, and full of suspense. Since I love Berlin it was fun to read about some of the famous sites like Alexanderplatz. If you like somewhat dark suspense in the 20th century, you will love this book.
The good The author is a good writer and the book is polished and easy to read.
There were glimpses of brilliance in a few of the chapters.

The bad The story doesn't go any where (maybe you have to read the second book too...but I'm not going to waste my time again). I won't say any more than that, I don't want to create a spoiler for future readers. It is simply frustrating to read hundreds of pages of a book only to be as confused and ignorant of what is happening at the end of the story as when reading the first chapter.
This is the first review I have written, but I feel strongly enough about this book to write it in hopes of saving others.

It was difficult getting into this book, but I persisted and was paid off by getting involved in the mystery only to be disappointed ultimately. The book closes with a tangle of lose ends and no closure/resolution on anything or rationale for most things. And there are going to be 7 or 8 more?!?

Among the many individual downers in the book horrific scenes of torture and animal abuse and jumping back and forth in time and between writing styles/genres.

I got the book at very reduced price (free?), but trust me, it was too much.

BTW--one star, the price of getting this posted, is too high.
