Bev leaves her husband and Emma and takes up with other band members but realizes it was she who had failed them.
I felt the book was way too long but it does cover a lifetime of some in the book.
Story follows Emma as she's now an adult along with members of the band. Surprised they were able to track down all the information about her toddler brothers death.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Public Secrets Nora Roberts 9780553589474 Books Reviews
The story was very good, quite a nice break from the trilogies. Love, heartbreak, romance and deceit; all there and well done.My biggest disappointment was the version. It was apparently an un-proofread draft that was released as the . There is missing punctuation and other mechanical flaws that distracted me from the story. I've come to expect that from the less well known authors, but not a national best-seller.
But the story itself is quite good.
Brian was a beautiful character. Beverly was a bit harder to warm to but still, so well fleshed. Jane so easy to hold in contempt..each band member was worthy and engaging, especially sweet johnno. How Michael and Emma were woven together by fate even at very young ages until it was finally their time made for a lovely romance in the midst of trauma, tragedy and family bonds. I enjoy Robert's books now but it has been years since she has written such compelling masterpieces as this one and Honest Illusions
I try to read all of Nora Roberts books. This was on sale. Nora truly develops her characters to the point that I can see them in my mind's eye. She has a way to wiggle into one's psychic so that you cannot put the book down. She weaves a tale so brilliantly I have to ask myself, how does she think of these plots? Great story with an excellent example of how abusers use their victims. I need to teach my granddaughters signs of abuse before actual physical contact and how to fight back. Thank you for your writing, Miss Nora.
Great characters and storyline. I never get enough of this writer. Need to find more of Nora Roberts to read!
The glitz of Hollywood and London play an integral part of this entertaining, gripping, and suspenseful novel. About a family in the world of Rock and Roll and the attempted kidnapping and murder of a very young child and how the family copes, especially this child's young 6 year old sister - Emma - who had promised to always take care of her little brother. Emma has her own story, from her early beginnings to being rescued by her faither who is a famous Rock and Roll star. Characters come into the plot, leave and later in the book come back. Love, Hate, and Sorrow the need to be on top runs through the theme of the book
Very depressing story. Most of the main characters were druggies or alcoholics or both. Nobody that I really liked. The happy ending didn't make up for all the unhappiness.
As usual, Ms Roberts kept me fully entertained. Fascinating backstories for the band members, all the rock-and-roll story over twenty years, the homicide cop who did not want to quit, Emma and Michael — well a lot happening. No surprise if you have read Nora Roberts before this book. I did struggle with all the typos and grammatical errors. Not what I normally see in Ms Roberts’ work. But still 5 stars for plotting, detailed characters and such great settings.
Let me start by saying I love Nora Roberts and own a ridiculous number of her books. That said, this is hands down one of the worst books I've ever read. The storyline is a mess, the characters are poorly handled, and the main character had me rolling my eyes half the book. The plot was AWFUL (ex. a horrific abusive relationship that was just cheap, lazy writing to give the MC more emotional angst and be helpless for whatshisface to jump in to save) and I honestly was more invested in one of the band members than anyone else. I'm so disappointed in this book and would NOT recommend wasting your money on it. Go read The Search, Chasing Fire, Angels Fall, The Obsession, or Montana Sky.
